Can preventive medicine play a role in HIV prevention?

Recent international research has shown that the use of the AIDS drug “Truvada” in HIV-negative people is effective in preventing sexual transmission of the virus, but more research is needed to understand how this drug could be used in specific real-life contexts worldwide. Our researchers are running a pilot project in Antwerp with men who have sex with men to find out if preventive treatment is acceptable, can be taken safely and whether it can be integrated into existing prevention strategies.
